He was raised by a family of academicians and leaders in the city of Allahabad - a city that gave several political, social and academic leaders to India. From school time Vipul Kant Upadhyay has been actively involved in several activities like sports, debate, writing, and leadership.

After completing his Bachelors in Science (B.Sc.), he decided to pursue engineering so he took admission in B. Tech course of Electronics & Communication at the JK Institute of Applied Physics at the University of Allahabad however he dropped out engineering midway to join Symbiosis, Pune for doing Masters in Business Administration (MBA).

He has surpassed his contemporaries in business by actively involved in various socio-economic initiatives between India and Japan.

He has always indulged himself in forwarding planning for the future trends and opportunities in business, his articles on mobile data and its impact on the business published in the magazines like Voice & Data, Dataquest, etc. He graced his presence at various national and international forums.

He incepted and formulated the concept of Citizen Journalism and User Generated news content by launching India’s first Citizen Journalism driven participatory news platform www.merinews.com way back in 2006. Merinews is a sustained and reliable source of information for many renowned news media companies in India and globally.
